How to Read This Blog
Based on comments we've gotten from people in years past we've realized that some visitors to this blog are not necessarily "denizens of the internet." If you fit this description, perhaps you'll find this tutorial useful.
First, some definitions. What is a blog anyway? Blog is short for "Weblog" and it's a journal or diary available online.
"Posts" are entries in the journal. A post can be very brief or can be longer and contain photos. A post (on this blog) starts with a headline and the date it was made available to read and ends with the time of day it was posted. In past years it was clear to us that some readers have missed the fact that we have many posts on our blogs. Last year, for example, we had 55 different posts in our blog. Only 7 fit on any one page of the blog. The rest are accessible by clicking on links on the right side of the page under the words "Blog Archive" or by clicking on "older posts" at the bottom of any page.
Anytime you see words highlighted in green (on this blog) which become underlined when you move the cursor over them with the mouse, these are "links." Clicking on them will take you to different, related content. If you click with the right mouse button you will have the option to open the link in a new web page and not lose the page you are currently reading. So, if you try moving down the Blog Archive and clicking on the word "February" it will take you to posts we added in the month of February (you may have to click on the year 2008). The first post of this year's blog is titled "A Little Background" and it was written on February 14. Newer posts always appear above older ones so if you wish to read in chronological order, start at headline closest to the bottom of the page.
One of the reasons we like this particular website is the ability it gives you to respond to us. At the end of each post you will see a link related to the number of "comments" made to that post. We see those comments, as can anyone else, and it's a great way to communicate while we're on our trip. Try it, we'd love to hear from you. And even if you don't write, we hope you enjoy the reading!

7) Scott's sister Kathy has two young children with serious food allergies. Kathy's recipe box chronicles her attempts to create good tasting food that the whole family can eat. (Be sure to check out the DH musings too!)
8) Scott's brother, Jon, is a highly regarded Shotokan karate instructor in the Silicon Valley. He has had two hip surgeries recently and blogged about that experience and his recovery.
9) Scott's oldest brother, Chris, is an experienced game writer, designer, and web community manager.
10) Scott's father has a website devoted to Dr. Alfred Adler, his Individual Psychology and the LifeCourse Effective Action Program.

Cool! My dog tried to eat one of those last summer. We had to go to the emergency vet, where we pulled the quills out of his mouth ourselves while waiting for the vet in the exam room.
